Shadow Dungeon Steam Deck and Performance

Official 1.0 Deck layouts, 40% FPS work, and 1.0.1 controller fixes.

Last updated:

Steam Deck and Performance

Shadow Dungeon is a Windows Steam game with full controller support and a dedicated Steam Deck pass in the 1.0 notes (August 26, 2026). Live patch 1.0.1 (August 27) did not rewrite the Deck layout; it added more screen resolutions, fixed controllers not being recognized, and fixed frame drops when playing with a controller. If you play handheld, treat 1.0.1 as required. Pair this page with Controls and Settings and Demo and System Requirements.

The game is single-player. Steam Cloud and Save Anytime are published features. There is no advertised always-online requirement.

Official Steam Deck layouts (1.0)

OO Cat wrote that the same button can do different jobs depending on the open panel, so most functions work from the pad without a mouse.

When inventory is open, X drops an item on the ground. When a shop is open, X sells. When storage is open, X sends an item to storage. When the skill panel is open, X fully upgrades the selected skill.

When adding skill points: A adds 1 point, X maxes the selected skill, and Y maxes the skill and all of its sub-skills. That is the official vocabulary. This wiki will not invent a full Steam Input community layout file as if OO Cat shipped it.

1.0 also increased font size, scaled many maps down, and removed some environmental objects to improve frame rates on Deck-class hardware. Expect slightly simpler scenery than a high-end PC screenshot, not a different campaign.

Performance notes from 1.0 and 1.0.1

The 1.0 announcement reduced visual-effect particles by about 60% and cited roughly 40% better frame rates. Lighting work dimmed torches, reduced the gap between bright and dark areas, and lowered ground contrast to cut eye strain. Global lighting controls exist; use them if a gothic map is too muddy on a small screen.

Minimum PC specs on the store remain Windows 7 or newer, Intel Core i5-4460 or AMD Ryzen 5 2400G, 8 GB RAM, GTX 960 / RX 460, DirectX 11, 10 GB. Recommended: i7-6700 or Ryzen 5 2600X, 16 GB RAM, GTX 2060 / RX 5700, 15 GB. Deck sits in the handheld band: start on a native resolution after 1.0.1, then drop effects if combat hitching remains.

Controller auto-target, auto-attack, per-skill targeting, L1/R1 paging on inventory, storage, and talent panels, one-button buff potions, and a customizable cursor all shipped in 1.0. None of that matters if Steam never sees the pad. After 1.0.1, reconnect the device in Steam’s controller settings if Windows hides it.

Accessibility tags

Steam lists Camera Comfort, Contrast Controls, Custom Volume Controls, Playable without Timed Input, Save Anytime, Stereo Sound, and Full controller support. Use in-game volume and contrast before you assume the art style is unreadable on Deck.

What this page will not invent

  • No unofficial TDP watt table presented as OO Cat’s defaults.
  • No promised 60 FPS lock on every Inferno rift.
  • No Linux-native build. The store lists Windows only.
  • No co-op on a second Deck.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about Shadow Dungeon.

Is Shadow Dungeon verified on Steam Deck?

OO Cat published Steam Deck-specific optimizations in the 1.0 notes: context-sensitive buttons, larger fonts, scaled maps. Valve's Deck verification badge can change; this wiki quotes the developer notes, not a badge screenshot.

What does X do on Steam Deck in Shadow Dungeon?

It depends on the panel. Inventory: drop. Shop: sell. Storage: stash. Skill panel: fully upgrade the selected skill. A adds one talent point; Y maxes a skill and its sub-skills.

Why did my controller stutter at launch?

Patch 1.0.1 fixed frame drops when playing with a controller and controllers not being recognized. Update, then rebind in Steam if the pad still fails.

Can I play Shadow Dungeon on macOS or Linux?

The store lists Windows only. Steam Deck runs the Windows build through Proton on Valve's handheld. There is no Mac or native Linux listing.

Did 1.0.1 change the Deck button layout?

No. 1.0.1 added resolutions and controller recognition/performance fixes. The X/A/Y skill and inventory contexts come from the 1.0 announcement.
