Shadow Dungeon Greater Rifts Guide

Post-story endgame with four difficulties and rift-exclusive drops.

Greater Rifts Guide

Greater Rifts are the post-campaign endgame documented in OO Cat’s Complete Official Version Content announcement for Shadow Dungeon 1.0. They unlock after you complete the main story. They are not a fifth class, not a seasonal ladder, and not a co-op instance. The game remains single-player, with no microtransactions and no seasonal resets.

This guide stays inside that announcement: four difficulties, rarer items and extra weapon affixes at higher settings, and the rift-exclusive item list. It does not invent floor counts, boss names, timers, or keybinds. For the seven-chapter path that gates this mode, use the Chapter Walkthrough. For how campaign XP is supposed to land you near the cap, see Leveling.

Unlock and campaign pacing

The 1.0 notes pair Greater Rifts with a 160-map campaign of about 30–50 hours, rebalanced so you reach approximately level 99–100 as you finish the main story. Max level is 100, after which Paragon levels and the Paragon Talent Tree open. In practice, you should treat story completion as the unlock condition, then enter rifts with a character that is already at or next to the cap rather than as an underleveled skip.

Monster levels and item drops are tied to the map, not the player. That rule is written in the same announcement as Greater Rifts. A high Paragon character does not rewrite a low campaign map’s drop table, and a rift difficulty that the game labels harder is the documented way to chase rarer items and denser weapon affixes after the story. Do not assume an unnamed overworld farm; this wiki will not invent one.

Four difficulties

Official difficulties, in the order OO Cat listed them:

  1. Normal
  2. Master
  3. Nightmare
  4. Inferno

Higher difficulties provide higher chances of obtaining rare items, and weapons can also roll more affixes. That is the full published reward scaling. There is no official numeric drop table, no published affix-slot counts per tier, and no claim that Inferno is required for every build. Move up when you can clear the current tier and want the documented extra rarity and affix chance.

Weapon affixes in 1.0 span 1,000+ rolls across Basic, Special, Negative Effects, Skills, and Summoning Skills, with 2,400 weapon-granted skill types (auras, trap launchers, skill conversions, projectile-blocking shields, combo launchers, summoned-creature accessories and attacks). Greater Rifts are the announced place where more affixes can appear on weapons as difficulty rises. Evaluate those rolls on the Items Hub; do not expect named unique legends that were never listed.

Rift-exclusive loot

The 1.0 post isolates a rift-only list. Collecting these is the practical reason to run Greater Rifts after the Demon Lord story beat:

  • 370 Talent Skill Runes
  • 6,800 Equipment Skill Runes
  • 60 Attribute Runes
  • Socketing Stones
  • Various Super Enhancement Stones
  • Essence Stones
  • Permanent Magic Stones
  • Golden Hammer
  • Divine Mirror

How each currency is spent is not itemized in the announcement beyond the names. This wiki will not invent NPC recipes. Keep the catalog on Runes and Enhancement Stones. Remember the future Rune System on the free roadmap is additional upcoming content, not a rename of these launch rift runes.

Treasure Sprites still operate in the 1.0 loot loop (pickup, salvage to gold, unique effects, wall pass). They are not listed as rift-exclusive, but they matter once rift drops start filling the floor. See Treasure Sprites. Extra backpack pages still come from quests; the warehouse is still unlimited pages.

Greater Rifts versus Mystic Dungeon Challenges

Two official names exist, and they are not merged on this site.

  • The Steam store Complete Content List includes a line Mystic Dungeon Challenges, without a store-page difficulty ladder.
  • The 1.0 announcement documents Greater Rifts as unlocked after the main story, with Normal, Master, Nightmare, and Inferno, plus the rift-exclusive item block above.

Do not treat those documents as proof they are the same activity. If you came from the store bullet, read Mystic Dungeon as the page for that store name. If you came from the August 21 launch write-up, this Greater Rifts page is the post-campaign loop with four difficulties and rift loot. Until OO Cat states they are one system, plan as if you may see both names in menus or marketing.

Combat and builds inside rifts

Rifts are still real-time Shadow Dungeon combat: mouse movement on PC, controller auto-target and auto-attack, one-button buff potions, and the four class playstyles (elemental Sorcerer, dual-blade Holy Warrior, precision Archer, summoning Necromancer). Use Combat for input and the DPS Tester. Use Classes and Builds and the Tier List for class choice; rifts do not add a fifth launch class.

Because higher difficulties add affix chance rather than a published monster-level formula, gear from 15 sets per class, 17 shrines, gems, potions, and elixirs still matters. Performance notes from 1.0 (60% fewer particles, about 40% better FPS, Steam Deck map scale-downs) apply to dense endgame screens as much as to the campaign.

How this fits the rest of 1.0

After the story you have three documented long-term axes: Greater Rifts (difficulties and rift items), Paragon (attributes past level 100), and unlimited late-game skill points across twelve trees and 370+ skills. Patch 1.0.1 did not change rift rules; it fixed launch bugs (including experience and controller stability) so you can actually reach the unlock. The full system list is on 1.0 Launch Content.

Official channels remain Steam, YouTube @OOCat-Game, and X @OOCat12345. There is a free demo (app 4563350) for the pre-1.0 slice; Greater Rifts are a full-release post-story feature, not a demo mode.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about Shadow Dungeon.

When do Greater Rifts unlock?

After you complete the main story, according to the Complete Official Version Content announcement. The campaign is about 30–50 hours across 160 maps and is meant to land you around level 99–100 at the end.

What are the Greater Rift difficulties?

Normal, Master, Nightmare, and Inferno. Higher difficulties increase the chance of rare items and allow weapons to roll more affixes.

Are Greater Rifts the same as Mystic Dungeon Challenges?

Not in this wiki. The store lists Mystic Dungeon Challenges. The 1.0 announcement documents Greater Rifts as post-campaign endgame. They are covered on separate pages until the developer says they are one feature.

What drops only in rifts?

The 1.0 list: 370 Talent Skill Runes, 6,800 Equipment Skill Runes, 60 Attribute Runes, Socketing Stones, Super Enhancement Stones, Essence Stones, Permanent Magic Stones, Golden Hammer, and Divine Mirror.

Do I need Inferno for Paragon?

Paragon unlocks after you hit the level 100 cap. Greater Rift difficulty is a separate loot and affix axis. The announcement does not require Inferno to open Paragon.

Can I run Greater Rifts in co-op?

No. Shadow Dungeon is single-player only. Rifts do not add multiplayer.
